'Ferndale Cottage' is in a prime location with fantastic views over Teesdale. Our cottage is situated in Stainton Village, just a two-minute drive from the bustling Market Town of Barnard Castle which is alive with the comings and goings of the local Dales folk. The cottage is close to many local pubs and restaurants, tourist amenities and great places of interest, like The Bowes Museum. Although very close to the centre of activities in Teesdale, the cottage is a haven of peace and quiet.
'Ferndale Cottage' is an original early Victorian farm-workers cottage built around 1850. At that time the house would have been a ‘one room up – one room down’, which was typical of the period. In around 1890 it was extended to ‘two up, two down’- great progress! Over a century later, in 2006, it was extended again and updated to a fine country cottage in a contemporary style. Now the cottage is bright and modern but still retains the ‘wrap around’ warmth of a dales country cottage.
